BMW sold 208,507 vehicles in China in the first quarter, down 9.2 per cent from a year earlier

On April 7, BMW announced its sales figures for the first quarter of 2022:596,907 new cars (including MINI and Rolls-Royce) were sold globally, down 6.2% year on year.In China, BMW sold 208,507 new cars (including the MINI) in the first quarter, down 9.2 per cent year on year.It is worth mentioning that BMW’s sales of pure electric vehicles in the Chinese market performed well in the first quarter, achieving a year-on-year growth of 207.9% thanks to the innovative BMW iX, I4 and new iX3.The BMW brand sold 519,796 new cars worldwide in the first quarter of this year.Despite the challenges, the BMW Group’s sales of all-electric vehicles in the first quarter more than doubled from the same period last year, with 35,289 all-electric vehicles (BMW and MINI) delivered globally, up 149.2% from the same period last year.In addition, the BMW Group has set a higher target for its all-electric lineup: this year, BMW will introduce 15 all-electric vehicles, including pre-production models, covering about 90% of the current market segment.In addition to the innovative BMW iX, I4, new iX3 and MINI Cooper SE already launched, there will be pure electric models of BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series and X1.MINI brand delivered 75,487 new vehicles worldwide in the first quarter, up 1.1% from the same period last year.The all-electric MINI Cooper SE delivered 8,925 units to customers worldwide.The MINI brand is now focused on the road to electrification, with a new MINI three-door model currently undergoing winter testing.Rolls-Royce delivered 1,624 new cars worldwide in the first quarter, an increase of 17.7% over the same period last year and the highest first-quarter sales for the brand since its creation.Rolls-Royce also decided to launch the Spectre, the brand’s first pure electric vehicle, in the fourth quarter of next year.By 2030, the entire Rolls-Royce fleet will be all-electric.BMW motorcycles delivered 47,403 new vehicles worldwide in the first quarter, an increase of 11.3% year on year and the best first-quarter sales ever for BMW motorcycles.Although BMW’s sales in China and globally declined in the first quarter compared with the same period last year, it is believed that BMW will perform well in the future with the recent launch of the all-new BMW X5 and all-new BMW I3.
